
Getting Your KHS Heating Back on Track
If you’ve been dealing with uneven wall thickness or bottles that just look… off, you know the frustration. It usually comes down to heating uniformity. We see it all the time. A few old lamps burn out, someone swaps them for cheap replacements, and suddenly the thermal profile is a mess. You end up with bottles that deform because the heat isn’t hitting the preform evenly from top to bottom.
The heat density struggle
Here is the thing about quartz halogen tubes: they have to be a perfect match for your KHS oven’s voltage and wattage. When you use high-wattage tubes, you get that intense heat needed to soften PET quickly. But there’s a catch. That kind of power puts a lot of pressure on your ventilation. If your cooling fans are dusty or clogged, those lamps will scorch the skin of the preform before the core even gets warm.
It’s all in the centering
You might wonder why some tubes just work better than others. For us, it comes down to where the tungsten filament sits. We make sure the coil is dead-center inside the quartz. If it shifts, you get “hot spots” on the glass, and that’s where things go wrong. We also stick to R7s and SK15 connectors because they actually fit. A loose connection isn’t just annoying—it creates resistance, leads to arc-over, and kills your sockets way too soon.
Just swap them in
The best part? These are drop-in replacements. You don’t have to touch your wiring or mess around with the panels. We’ve tuned the spectral output so the infrared waves actually soak deep into the PET. You’ll feel the difference in how the preform stretches. It just flows better.
